FCL Shipment’s
: - Shippers/Exporters must also be advised their “wood packaging” (ie:
Pallets, crates, etc) must be stamped with the Fumigators
ISPM15 mark BEFORE Loading into their container and Fumigated. (ie): Put
in all Pallets in one area to be stamped , then Load & their Fumigator
provides Fumigation Cert.
The below major upcoming change is
going in our Newsletter tomorrow to NZ Importers, can you start letting
your Exporters clients know now.
“Wood Packaging” = (All pallets, crates, Dunnage , reels, drums, etc)
to NZ as of 01 MAY 2006 must be “Treated” (under ISPM15 standards), or
“treatment” required in New Zealand, reshipped or destroyed.
Best option is Fumigation at origin, and Fumigation Certificate to ISPM15
Standard sent to Mainfreight International NZ.
Any products (ie: Food products where Shippers will not allow to be fumigated),
you need to advise them they must only load on wood packaging “Stamped”
as Heat Treated under ISPM15 standard or face major charges in NZ.
For Australian shipments: please realise this effects all “DDU” (Free
Dom) shipments to NZ under our Trans-Tasman arrangements where conditions
as set out and required from 01-May-06 below, are not met.

Major Upcoming "MAF" changes for all Importers
(for Wood Packaging) (Air, LCL, FCL)
MAF are expected to implement a major change effecting all Importers
to New Zealand regarding all “Wood Packaging” (defined as “Wood or Wood
products used to “Support”, “carry” or “protect” a commodity). Examples
are pallets, crates, dunnage, spacers, drums, reels or gluts.
As of 01 May 2006 all wood packaging into
New Zealand must be either “Heat treated” or “Fumigated.”
This must be “treated” according to ISPM15 worldwide standards.
You must obtain pallets, crates, dunnage (or any Wood Packaging) that
are “stamped” as Heat Treated under ISPM15, or have “Fumigated” overseas
and provide a Fumigation Certificate that conforms to ISPM15 treatment
method requirements.
All Quarantine Declarations must specify
that either of these “Wood Packaging” treatment methods has been used.
The existing regulations only require timber be clean, dry, free of insects,
signs of damage, bark, fungas or decay, this is still necessary only now
MAF required timber imports “treated” as specified above.
Any non-compliance will result in additional costs to the importer,
please urgently address this change with all your suppliers to avoid unnecessary
delays, extra costs.
Any untreated imported wood packaging arriving into NZ will need
to be either “Treated”, reshipped or destroyed.
If you import Food products or products that cannot be fumigated then
your must immediately only ship on treated, stamp approved Wood packaging
or accept this packaging can only be removed and destroyed in New Zealand
with expensive handling & destruction costs payable.
Any questions please address to a Carotrans representative who will assist,
or have an appropriate team member answer your query.
